Rebekah had been frozen in place from the moment Montana had removed Rosario from her, too stunned to even move. She wasn't one to shy away from a fight, but she hadn't wanted to hurt Rose, physically or emotionally.

Sometimes people got too close for their own good.

Even after all the times she'd told him they would never work this way, he still wanted to press it. And then, Montana had stepped in, pulling him off of her.

He'd been growling, livid, and feral.

And then she'd caught a whiff of cinnamon on the air, which, in itself, wouldn't have been unusual, if they were near the bakery, or the coffee shop. But they weren't. There was literally no reason at all that she should smell cinnamon as strongly as if it'd been stuck beneath her nose in stick form.

Rosario seemed content to fight Montana now, which in turn riled Rebekah's wolf. I can fight my own battles, thank you.

But the words out of Montana's mouth rooted her to the ground where she knelt, the edges of her white dress soaking up the snow beneath her knee.

"She's mine," he said, his voice a low growl.

The falling snow began to settle on her hair, coating Rebekah in a soft layer of white. Her body ran so hot normally, it would have been nothing more than an irritant. But now, her body was running three times as hot, and she didn't feel a thing outside of confusion, doubt, and relief.

Was he really my mate? Why couldn't I smell him? How had I looked into his eyes a hundred times before today and not felt the mate pull?

Her eyes met Rosario's, and the look in his eyes confused and worried her.

"Ask him, Becks! Ask him how long he's been hiding it from you!"

Montana shifted then, balling his hand into a fist that he delivered accurately and with lightning quick speed to the side of Rosario's jaw. The latter male fell to his knees in the snow, spitting blood as his sister approached to help him up. He brushed her off, staring daggers at Rebekah as another tear trailed down her face, this one for him.

"Keep your fucking tears; I don't want them." He glanced over to where Montana stood glaring at him, a look of contempt for the stronger male in his eyes. "You've got your pretty little Alpha dog now. I don't need your pity."

Estella grabbed Rose by the collar, dragging her brother's face to within an inch of her own, a snarl breaking from her lips. "You really need to learn when to shut up, pal." In a second, she had him off the ground and was guiding him toward the nearby car, hands pinned behind his back. She shoved him straight into the back of the car, ignoring his protests as she slammed the door on him, turning back to Montana with a smile and a thumbs up.

If it was possible to become even more confused in this whole fucked up situation, Rebekah was there.
